School Council Spotlight: Glen Ogilvie Public School Primary Literacy Night

Glen Ogilvie Public School hosted a successful Primary Literacy Night for families of students in Kindergarten to Grade 2. The evening's goal was to equip families with practical activities to support their child's early literacy development at home.

The event began with a complimentary halal hot dog dinner, hosted and funded by the School Council. Following dinner, families embarked on a “passport” adventure, collecting stamps by attending their choice of 15-minute workshops led by school staff. Workshops covered a range of topics including “Literacy on the Go!,” “Phonemic Awareness,” “Mnemonic Alphabet - The Kindergarten Way,” “French Son-au-graphe” and more.

Thanks to a Parents Reaching Out (PRO) Grant secured by the School Council, every family received a take-home bag filled with literacy materials. At the conclusion of the evening, completed passports were entered into a draw for baskets containing books, a stuffie and school supplies. The event concluded with many happy faces, highlighting its positive impact on the Glen Ogilvie Public School community.
