OCDSB and KNBA Launch Groundbreaking SWIFT Program

The Ottawa-Carleton District School Board (OCDSB), in partnership with the Kanata North Business Association (KNBA), has launched the School Within Innovative and Future Technologies (SWIFT) Program. Commencing in September 2025, this program offers Grade 12 students a great opportunity to immerse themselves in the dynamic world of technology, right within Canada's largest technology park, Kanata North.
SWIFT is specifically designed for students keen on exploring careers in technology and innovation. It promises an immersive, hands-on learning experience that goes beyond traditional classroom settings.
Students and families eager to learn more are invited to a virtual information session on Monday, June 16th, from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The session can be accessed via this Google Meet link.
The program boasts a compelling array of benefits for participating students:
- Real-World Experience: Students will gain invaluable skills by working directly with industry professionals on real projects, acquiring the competencies sought by today's employers.
- Prime Location: Situated at the Kanata North Technology Campus, students will be at the very centre of technological innovation.
- Personalized Attention: With small class sizes of approximately 20 students per semester, participants will benefit from individualized guidance from dedicated OCDSB teachers and industry mentors.
- Academic Credits: Students will earn four credits towards their Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD), comprising two classroom learning credits and two hands-on training credits with industry partners.
- Cutting-Edge Curriculum: The curriculum will delve into critical tech areas such as software development, cybersecurity, data analytics, and Innovation and Design Thinking.
- Potential SHSM Designation: There's also the opportunity to achieve a Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM) designation in a tech sector, a significant advantage for post-secondary applications and future careers.

Application Details:
The program is open to Grade 12 students who have demonstrated an interest in a Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) pathway. Prerequisites include:
- Completion of Grade 11 English (College or University level).
- Completion of Grade 11 Mathematics (College, University/College, or University level).
- Completion of at least one of the following: Grade 11 or 12 Business Studies (any discipline), Grade 11 or 12 Science (any discipline), or Grade 11 or 12 Technological Education (any discipline).
- Willingness to complete one SWIFT program course through eLearning.
- Ability and willingness to travel to the Kanata North Business Park for the semester.
Prioritization for selection will be given to historically underserved or underrepresented students.

Applicants must submit a Graduation Summary Report (to be requested from school staff), a resume, a Personal Statement of Experience, and a teacher reference.
