OCDSB Schools Unite Once Again for the Ottawa Summer Food Drive

For the second consecutive year, the OCDSB is proud to be a key partner in the Ottawa Summer Food Drive, an incredible initiative coordinated by Khalsa Aid Canada, the Ottawa Food Bank and the Ottawa Community Housing Foundation. This year, 16 participating schools are busy gathering donations of non-perishable food, demonstrating the incredible spirit of community and compassion that thrives in our learning environments.
This partnership aims to make a significant impact on food insecurity in Ottawa, especially during the summer months when many children lose access to crucial school-based breakfast and lunch programs. With food donations typically at their lowest during this time, the Ottawa Summer Food Drive steps in to fill a critical gap, ensuring that children and families across our city have access to nutritious food.
With invaluable support from Italfoods and numerous local businesses and community groups, OCDSB students are collaborating to collect food donations while learning first-hand about the importance of social responsibility. The donated food will directly benefit the Ottawa Food Bank, which supports nearly 100 food programs across its extensive network, and the Ottawa Community Housing Foundation.
The food drive will culminate in an event on Saturday, June 14th at General Vanier Public School, featuring families and students from the participating schools, as well as partners and local representatives.
We are incredibly proud of our participating schools and their commitment to this cause:
