Rowan’s Law Day is September 24th

In May 2013, 17-year-old Rowan Stringer died as the result of head injuries she sustained while playing rugby. The Ontario government passed concussion safety legislation known as Rowan’s Law in 2018, which included the declaration of Rowan’s Law Day on the last Wednesday of September. The day is dedicated to promoting awareness of concussions and the importance of having strategies to prevent, identify and manage them.
On and leading up to Rowan's Law Day, OCDSB schools will have in-class education and discussions about concussions and concussion safety. Staff and students are also welcome to wear purple, Rowan’s favorite colour, to help raise awareness.
To learn more about Rowan’s Law Day, visit OCDSB’s Rowan’s Law Day webpage. It contains useful information about the signs and symptoms and what to do if you suspect a concussion. It’s important to remember that any head injury must be taken seriously.
