Brookfield High School Celebrates Community and Connection at ‘Taste of Cultures’ Potluck

Families gathered at the 'Taste of Cultured' Potluck at Brookfield High School.

Brookfield High School buzzed with an incredible display of community spirit recently as over 300 people gathered for the highly anticipated ‘Taste of Cultures’ Potluck. The event, hosted by the School Council, was a resounding success, bringing together families for an evening of delicious food, engaging games, and meaningful connections.

The heart of the evening was undoubtedly the culinary journey offered by the 40 families who contributed an astonishing array of dishes. Attendees were treated to a global feast, with flavours spanning continents. From the refreshing limonana (mint lemonade) of Lebanon to the savoury bánh mì of Vietnam, and the comforting nikujaga soup of Japan, every dish told a story of heritage and home. Other highlights included falafel and salad from the Middle East, delicate crème caramel from France, delightful buñuelos colombianos from Colombia, fragrant pesto focaccia from Italy, sweet basboosa from Lebanon, zesty lemon cookies from Italy, savoury musakhan rolls from Palestine, traditional perogies from Ukraine, hearty beef stew from Vietnam, classic scones from Ireland and many more delectable delights.

Beyond the incredible food, the ‘Taste of Cultures’ event fostered a vibrant atmosphere of togetherness. Many families lingered long after their plates were empty, enjoying the various activities on offer. The gym and courtyard buzzed with the sounds of laughter and friendly competition, as attendees enjoyed games, conversation, and genuine connection. Childcare options were also available for children aged 5-12, ensuring that parents and caregivers could fully immerse themselves in the festivities. Many also took the opportunity to contribute to the community tree, adding a unique, shared element to the evening.

The event fostered community building, strengthened relationships, and created positive connections within Brookfield families. This sentiment was widely shared by many who observed the genuine interactions and palpable joy throughout the evening.

‘Taste of Cultures’ truly embodied its purpose: bringing people and their families together to share their community through food. The numerous positive interactions made for a memorable evening, as the event successfully united the Brookfield High School community, celebrated diverse cultures, and forged lasting bonds over the universal language of food and fun.
