Dunlop Dragons Made History with New Jerseys and a Big Win

For 55 years, students at Dunlop Elementary School have competed on the court without formal sports jerseys. This changed in May 2025 when the Dunlop Dragons junior boys' and girls' basketball teams arrived at the regional tournament wearing brand-new, official school jerseys.
The new gear seemed to work its magic right away. The boys' team, outfitted in the blue and white reversible jerseys for the first time, not only competed but dominated. They brought home the first-place trophy, a win that has eluded the school for over five years. The excitement was palpable among the players.
"It was such a good feeling to wear our new jerseys," said Jaxon, a Grade 6 student. "We felt so proud with our new shirts, and we worked hard and won!"
The new uniforms also made a practical difference, as Grade 6 student Miriam explained. "They are comfortable and fit us properly—the pinneys used to fall down our shoulders." Though the girls' team didn't win their tournament, she added, "we felt really proud" to play in the new gear.
Another player, Samod, highlighted the smart design of the new uniforms. "I love how they are reversible. When we went against another team that was blue, we just flipped our jerseys to the white side." For him, the victory felt especially significant. "Winning felt like we finished a mission since it had been so long since a team from our school won at a tournament."
The jerseys gave the players a new sense of identity and pride. "We really felt like we belonged," said Omar, another Grade 6 student.
Now that the Dunlop Dragons have their "good luck" jerseys, the school is buzzing with excitement. Only time will tell what other victories these new uniforms will inspire.
