The Past Comes to Life: Cedarview Students Shine at Regional Heritage Fair

The halls of the Canadian War Museum buzzed with excitement as fifteen students from Cedarview Middle School (CMS) proudly showcased their passion for Canadian history at the 2025 Ottawa Regional Heritage Fair. This marked the culmination of a year-long journey that began within their own school walls.
Earlier, more than 170 CMS students delved into a wide range of historical topics, creating detailed research projects for the school's History Fair. This event highlighted the diverse stories that form Canada's rich past. After a careful selection process, the top projects were chosen to advance to the regional competition, giving these students a chance to represent their school and share their hard work with a broader audience.
At the regional fair, the CMS projects stood out, drawing the attention of fellow competitors, parents, teachers, and judges alike. The students' dedication and enthusiasm were evident as they presented their research and engaged in conversations about their chosen topics.
Their hard work paid off with several prestigious awards. Hannah Ho and Layla Wetmore took home the Ottawa Women's Historical Society Award, a top honour, for their fascinating project on The Chateau Lafayette. Charlotte Hooper and Ellie MacEwen were recognized for their outstanding performance and presentation skills, earning a special award from the judges for their research on the Ottawa Charge. Finally, Audrey Lu and Jolie Huang received the Ottawa Museum Network Award for their project, Canadian Currency Through the Ages.
Beyond the accolades, the day was a fun-filled and educational experience for all the students. They had the opportunity to see a wide variety of projects from their peers across the city, all united by a shared goal: to deepen their understanding of Canadian heritage and history. It was a day where the past truly came to life.
