OCDSB’s School Within A University (SWAU), in partnership with Carleton University and its Faculty of Arts and Sciences and the Enriched Support Program, gives students a unique opportunity to explore postsecondary education in a real-world setting.
SWAU provides Grade 11 and 12 students, including those with identified learning needs, first-generation university hopefuls, Multilingual Learners, and students from Indigenous and other historically underserved communities, with positive opportunities to experience a university learning environment. This experience aims to empower students who may not have previously envisioned themselves pursuing university to explore postsecondary education and determine if it aligns with their pathway goals.
Selected students will take a first-year university course at Carleton University, attending their chosen university program during class time and spending the remainder of the day at the university with an OCDSB teacher.
Students earn a university credit and/or a high school credit upon successful completion, with the OCDSB teacher providing support for both credit requirements.
