Important Update to Blue Bin Recycling Program

As a result of the Province of Ontario's implementation of the Resource Recovery and Circular Economy Act, the local company that manages recyclable materials has discontinued plastics recycling services for institutions. This means that the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board (OCDSB) can no longer accept blue bin materials such as plastic containers, bottles, and food packaging. Our black bin program for paper and cardboard will continue as before.

The majority of plastic waste in OCDSB schools and buildings comes from lunches. To help us manage these materials more effectively and support the OCDSB's commitment to Social Responsibility, families, students and staff are requested to adopt a ‘boomerang lunch’ approach - where any plastics recyclable waste is brought back home

This collaborative effort is crucial for our school community and helps us divert waste from landfills. Please note that this change does not affect residential recycling services.

We thank OCDSB families, students, staff and community partners for their understanding and cooperation as we adapt to these new provincial requirements.
