Sydney D

Sydney has dedicated nearly 500 hours to community involvement across Ottawa, with a strong focus on Black youth empowerment. She assisted with the Sankofa summer food program at Lisgar, ensuring accessible, culturally relevant meals. Sydney also co-organized Future Paths Network's Black History Month Showcase, celebrating heritage and highlighting Black excellence as backstage manager. Since October 2024, she's volunteered weekly with the OCDSB Black Youth Forum (BYF), mentoring students, connecting them with resources and advocating for culturally relevant learning materials. Through BYF, Sydney partnered with Carleton University to host an academic panel, fostering mentorship and addressing colonial ideologies, demonstrating that Black history is celebrated year-round.
